Peter Beagrie
An absolute bag of tricks on City’s left wing. Peter Beagrie played a huge role in City’s promotion to the Premier League in 1999 and the subsequent survival. He could turn full backs inside out, his twists and turns combined with excellent close control. He would often beat a full-back twice or even three times, before delivering a cross. A real showman, he celebrated goals with a trademark somersault.
Peter had played for his hometown club Middlesbrough, Sheffield United, Stoke City and Everton, before City signed him from Manchester City in 1997.
When signed by Chris Kamara for a bargain £50,000, Peter had a high profile court case pending in the Channel Islands and it appeared that Manchester City were relieved to see the back of their talented winger. What a coup it proved to be, the court case didn’t become the career-threatening affair many had predicted and Beagrie was an instant hit at Valley Parade.
He went onto make 131 appearances for the Bantams, scoring 20 goals. He left Valley Parade midway through 2000-01 season and joined Wigan Athletic on a short contract. He signed for Scunthorpe United in the summer of 2001 and is still scoring and thrilling the crowds in the Third Division.
