Frank Thompson Frank Thompson's FA Cup Winner's Medal An Irish midfielder, Thompson had already won the Irish League Championship and two Irish Cup finals with Cliftonville before arriving at Valley Parade in 1910, via Everton. Frank scored vital goals on the way to the capture of the FA Cup. He headed the winner that defeated Burnley in the quarter-final at Valley Parade in front of a record 39,146 crowd. He also scored in the semi-final against Blackburn Rovers. Thompson stayed at Valley Parade only three years, but won seven Irish caps during that time. He departed for Clyde in 1913, where he eventually became their player-manager. Frank later managed Irish club Glentoran. He died in Ayr County Hospital in 1950.
